Pink Dog Gallery: 348 Depot Street, Asheville, NC 28801
July 19–August 18, 2019
Beyond Words is an exhibit of self-portraits co-authored by me and twenty individuals of different economic, social, political and religious backgrounds. Inspired by a desire to deeply and authentically connect with the people in my community, these works tell the stories of my collaborator’s life journeys; experiences of tragedy and triumph, love and loss, friendship and struggle.
My time of listening and understanding and collaboration has resulted in this series of thought provoking works using found imagery, collage and lush explosions of color. These self-portraits provide a path to transform, connect and build up, in a world filled with divisiveness and negativity. Through this ongoing series, I am calling viewers to engage, to connect, to be present, to be compassionate, to be awake, to listen, to recognize that our differences are worth celebrating, and that all stories are worth telling.
Thank you to all who attended the opening reception on July 19, 2019
Help support this exhibit - even after the opening!
This show is unique in that no works will be for sale. Each piece will be returned to the participating collaborator framed and ready to hang on a wall in their home. Therefore there are some costs that I need to cover including the framing of all 20 works, as well as the printing costs for exhibit guides and postcards sets of all the works to be gifted to each collaborator as well. And if you have services to donate rather than contributing a monetary amount, please connect with me below! Thank you!
